The good news is, if you use some of the tips below, you can minimize the damage and still enjoy your weekend.
- Hydrate properly. July is hot all over the country. Prevent dehydration and help flush the toxins from your system by drinking plenty of water. It will also help combat water retention and keep your skin glowing. To boost the health benefits, squeeze lemon into your water.
- Drink wisely. Don’t waste calories on sugar-laden drinks like soda, juice and fruity cocktails. Instead opt for iced green tea, sparkling water and if you must imbibe, drink low calorie choices like white wine or vodka with soda water.
- Work it out. Don’t take the weekend off just because it’s a holiday, especially since you may eat and drink more than usual. Get up early and go for a run, do yoga or hit the gym to help rev your metabolism and burn some of the extra calories you may consume over the weekend. Try to work in physical activity in other ways, such as joining in any outdoor sports that are going on at any of the parties you attend.
- Opt for lean protein. Assuming there is a grill at any of the barbecues or parties you attend, there will probably be some lean protein cooking. Lean protein is ideal for weight loss and maintenance, as it fills you up, promotes healthy digestion and helps increase lean muscle mass. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn, which is ideal for dieters. So pass on the hot dog and instead choose that delicious looking salmon, chicken or lean grass-fed beef.
